Adventures in Cambodia & Vietnam

I’ve just returned from my trip in Cambodia & Vietnam! Despite the occasional gust of sand and dirt in my face, and the swarms of flies around my meals… the city and sights were absolutely stunning and culturally stimulating!

My first sketch was at the Airport while we waited for our flight.

Quick Naps.

Unlike most of the houses in Cambodia, the upper house complex we stayed in was equipped with a fully functional toilet, warm heated water and air condition which were all very rare to have down there.

The living room

In the streets of Phnom Penh, traffic lights and road signs were even rarer. Cars, motorbikes and bicycles went as they pleased. I sketched this quite road while sitting in the trunk of a van. See… absolutely no rules.

A Lone Street

While on the tour bus to Vietnam, I learned a few things. Lesson 1: Always bring toilet paper and some spare change for toilet fees… or don’t drink any water.

My aunt and uncle napping on the tour bus to Vietnam.

We visited Hoc Chi Minh, Da Lat and a few other places in Vietnam. Lesson 2: Holes in the ground are very trendy toilets in the countryside so don’t be offended.

Donkey Express

The bus driver pulled a few stunts on our way up and down the mountains. We got back in one piece but unfortunately the truck ahead of us wasn’t so lucky and flipped to its side.

Too close to Heaven

Returning to Cambodia, we spent a few days in Siem Reap. About 5.5 km from there was the Famous Angkor Wat Temple. Lesson 3: You can enter famous tourist attractions like the Ankor Wat for free if you are a Khmer citizen… or pretend to be one.

Monks at Sunset

I visited many other wonderful places but only managed to fill in a few pages in my book before my markers died. Here are some photos to compensate for my lack of sketches:
